The Importance of Proper Drainage

It's important that all homes have proper drainage. Why? Well, proper drainage helps prevent water from standing and/or ponding next to the foundation. In circumstances where water is left standing for long periods of time, it can cause soil erosion or even foundation settlement. Corrective measures may be needed if the water stands within 10-feet of the foundation perimeter for more than 24-hours. The grade away from foundation walls should fall a minimum of 6 inches (152 mm) within the first 10 feet (3048 mm).
